RISING-RO was founded in 2026 and is building its network.
We are bringing together radiation oncologists, medical physicists and radiation therapists from across Southeast Europe. The structures, working groups and first projects are taking shape now, and there is room to help shape them from the start.
Multidisciplinary by design
Modern radiation oncology depends on several professions working together.
RISING-RO is explicitly designed as a multidisciplinary initiative, built around three core professional groups.

Radiation oncologists
Clinical perspectives, patient selection, treatment strategies, clinical research, and oncology policy.

Medical physicists
Expertise in technology, treatment planning, dosimetry, quality assurance, equipment, safety, and implementation of advanced radiotherapy techniques.

Radiation therapists / RTTs
Essential expertise regarding treatment delivery, imaging, workflow, patient positioning, operational implementation, and everyday functioning of radiotherapy departments.
Epidemiologists, statisticians, oncology nurses, radiobiologists, health economists, surgeons, medical oncologists, imaging specialists, data scientists, patient representatives and other professionals may participate depending on individual projects. Who can join

Improving radiation oncology in Southeast Europe, together.
The mission of RISING-RO is to improve radiation oncology in Southeast Europe through regional collaboration, evidence generation, education, professional networking, and advocacy for equitable access to high-quality radiotherapy.

Geographic scope
A regional network, not a national one.
RISING-RO focuses on Southeast Europe and neighbouring countries with strong professional, historical, educational, or healthcare links to the region. No single country is intended to dominate the initiative.
